An indigenous tribe from the highlands of Papua New Guinea known as the Huli Wigmen, is a proud group of people who believe they are descended from one man by the name of Huli, a skilled farmer who gave them the fertile, rich land they now inhabit in the Huli Territory.  Ambua, or yellow clay, is frequently utilized to paint their body and is considered sacred to the Huli. The Huli depend on agriculture and hunting for their livelihood.

Separate huts are used by men and women. People of the same gender typically live together in the same home. The young boys will remain with their mothers until they reach puberty. Girls are married once they enter age of maturity, typically exchanged for pigs or land. Traditionally, skeletons of local fish and bones of mammals are used to decorate the entrances of each male hut. They represent the origin of the hunter and present an image of hostility towards strangers. The Huli Wigmen may demand payment in the form of pigs or women if someone enters one of their demarcated areas without permission. A refusal typically results in war.

This tribe has a very unique way of getting the young ones ready for manhood. The boys live with their mothers until they are 7 or 8 years old before moving in with their fathers to begin learning how to be a man.  They would then enrol in ‘bachelor school’ deep in the jungle until they reach the age of 14 to 15 years, learn about the biological and ritual processes of becoming a man. They are prohibited from speaking to any women during this time, including their mothers. It is believed that a combination of magic and a special diet help the young male transition into a man and help his hair grow extra quickly.

The biggest distinction between tribal members and residents of busy cities is what they occupy their time with. The city, which is a vibrant global metropolis, forces the people of today to lead a fast-paced lifestyle in which they frequently neglect to care for themselves, let alone their own traditions. Tribal people, however, hardly worry about this. They get very little outside distractions and live a fulfilling lifestyle thanks to their rich traditions, beliefs, and rituals. Twelf-X, on the other hand, stands between these two types of lifestyles. Twelf-X is the bridge that connects modernity and traditions. Wear it and experience it for yourself.
