Exploring The World – Ibn Battuta

Ibn Battuta, born in 1304 in Tangier, Morocco, was one of the greatest travelers and explorers in history. Ibn Battuta belonged to a Muslim family of legal scholars. He received an education in Islamic law but showed a strong interest in travel and adventure from a young age.

At the age of 21, Ibn Battuta set out on a pilgrimage to Mecca, known as the Hajj. This journey was the beginning of his extensive travels, which lasted for over 30 years. He travelled extensively throughout the Islamic world and beyond, covering over 75,000 miles across Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, India, Southeast Asia, and China. His travels took him to places as diverse as Morocco, Egypt, Syria, Persia, Iraq, India, the Maldives, and China and was motivated by a desire for knowledge, adventure, and religious devotion. He sought to explore different cultures, observe religious practices, and meet scholars and rulers along the way.
